New Year’s Eve 2012: The Cocoanut Grove at Lucques

Each year we chose a theme for our New Year’s Eve celebration and dinner. We’ve can-canned at our own Moulin Rouge and had a few too many bellinis at Lucques’ version of Harry’s Bar but this year we’ll be staying a little closer to home. We’ll travel in time a bit but keep it right here in Los Angeles.

To close out 2012 we’ll be going back to the heyday of the Cocoanut Grove at the historic Ambassador Hotel. As always there will be themed decor and costumed staff. We may even add some live music. It’s Suzanne’s menu that’s the real star, though. She and chef de cuisine Javier found a stash of old Cocoanut Grove menus for inspiration and the result is both very Lucques and classic old school Californian all at once.

If you’re joining us for the second seating there will be streamers, noise makers, party hats and a champagne toast for everyone. Per person menu and pricing are below. We hope to see you.


hors d’oeuvres:
potoato blini with crème fraîche and caviar
duck liver rumaki
deviled egg with celery and anchovy

california seafood cocktail supreme with
shrimp, crab, squid, avocado and cilantro

fillet of rex sole poached in butter
with celery root and white grapes

grilled veal chop with creamed spinach,
chanterelles, sherry and black truffle butter

ambassador ice cream cake with chocolate sauce

a supplemental wine pairing will be available for $50

    Do you offer vegetarian options? Granted, that’s not old school….

      We’ll absolutely have vegetarian options. For event nights and every night. One of the benefits of being so close with the farmers is that we always have great options for vegetarian requests.

    what time does the second seating begin?

      We are taking reservations for the second seating between 8:30 and 9:30pm. The menu is the same for both but with the later seating there’s live entertainment by Roberto Melendez. We’ll also be passing out party favors, and champagne to toast the new year.
